School of Information Science and Engineering was established on the basis of Department of Automatic Control, which developed into the Department of Computer and the Department of Automatic Control in 1987. In 2000, for the need of disciplinary development and rational allocation of resources, the two departments were combined into Branch of Information Science and Engineering, which was officially renamed as School of Information Science and Engineering of Shenyang Ligong University in May 2004. For short, School of Information. For the need of development of the university, the school was split into School of Information Science and Engineering and Electrical School in 2015.

The school covers 6 undergraduate disciplines: computer science and technology, communication engineering, electronic information engineering, electronic information science, technology, network engineering and Internet of Things Engineering； 3 first-level master degree disciplines: computer science and technology, information and communication engineering and software engineering; 5 second-level master degree disciplines: computer software and theory, computer application technology, computer system structure, communication and information system and signal and information processing; and 2 engineering master degree granted fields: computer technology, electronics and communication engineering. Among these disciplines, computer application technology is provincial key discipline, while computer science and technology is the provincial characteristic discipline. Besides, the school has one National 863 key laboratory, one provincial major science and technology platform, and 7 provincial engineering centers, key laboratories and engineering laboratories. The school is also important training department serving the special needs for doctors in the country and major construction department of post doctoral research station of our university.

The school now has 1940 students, among whom are 1710 undergraduates, 209 full-time graduate students and 21 engineering graduate students. The school attaches great importance to overall cultivation of students in knowledge, practical abilities, comprehensive abilities and innovative abilities. Many students have won the honorary title of national, provincial and municipal level. Many students won over 100 national and provincial awards successively in Challenge Cup Science and Technology Competition for College Students, National Smart Cars Competition for College Students, Electronic Design Competition, Mathematical Modeling Contest and Program Design Competition.

The school now has a faculty of 105 people, 87 of whom are full-time teachers. Among them are 13 professors, 1 Professor level senior experimentalist, 39 associate professors and 5 senior experimentalists. 23 people have doctor degrees, 43 people have master degrees. There are 3 doctor supervisors and 50 master advisors. An excellent teachers team with optimal structure, high quality, young and middle-aged group as the main body has formed. 3 persons were awarded the state council special allowances, one person was honored as Excellent Talent in the New Century” by Educational Department; 1 person was honored as Excellent Expert in Liaoning Province; . 3 persons were honored as the Excellent Talents of Liaoning Colleges; 1 person was honored as Provincial Teaching Master. Many teachers have also won other awards and honors, including Youth Science and Technology Award of Liaoning Province, Excellent Teachers, and Outstanding Scientists and Technicians etc. Meanwhile, the school has a provincial scientific research and innovative team.

In recent years, The school has undertaken and completed more than 40 national scientific research projects, more than 60 provincial scientific research projects, more than 120 cooperation projects with enterprises; won one second-class national prize for scientific and technological progress, one first-class prize for scientific and technological progress in Liaoning Province, more than 30 other provincial and ministerial awards, and more than 50 authorized patents.
